Happy Valentine's Day! We exchanged gifts and Robbie helped!

January-Happy 30th Birthday to Rachel! I had an awesome birthday (thanks to family and especially Jason)! My students also had a surprise birthday party for me--the poster they made is in this picture.

A Poem for Grandpa

For those who do not know, my wonderful grandpa has passed away. I wrote the following about him:

To me, grandpa means many things
A man greater than mighty kings
Humble, kind, honest, and true
Helpful, funny, and witty too.
Always there to love and share
Even when life seems hard to bear.
A teacher with great knowledge and skill,
Guiding others, their minds to fill.
A man that works his whole life through
And shows us what we should do.
Who lives his life by what he believes
And sets an example that he will leave ...

He loved his children and his wife
And gave for them throughout his life.
Respectful, devoted, and faithful,
For his beloved, he was always grateful.
Even when she did not know,
His devotion for her did grow.
And when his dear darling did depart
She took a large portion of his heart.
Finally, they will be together,
And keep their love into forever.

To all of us, he gave his love
And will continue from above.

Our baby is becoming a little boy! He is growing up so fast! We had a small birthday party at home for him on his birthday. Then, we visited family and had a party with his cousin who is about 10 days older than Robbie. It was fun to watch him get excited about the "birday perties" and presents. He loves Star Wars, so he got some Star Wars toys. He also got many other toys:) He is such a cute kid!

Fourth of July

We celebrated the Fourth of July in many ways!
Robbie had fun playing outside. We took him to the city festivities, which he also enjoyed. He got to ride a train, pet a Police dog, and watch a helicopter land.

Stadium of Fire-We got tickets and had our wonderful neighbor watched Robbie (good thing, he would not have made it!). My mom, mother-in-law, and brother-in-law came with us. My mom took some great pictures. It was awesome to celebrate with so many people!

Robbie did many things this month. Here are a few:
He learned the word, "egg" as he decorated and hunted eggs. He liked hunting eggs so much that Mommy and Daddy put more around the house for a few days after.

He also went to his great-grandpa Lorin's funeral and got to see a lot of family. He said, "Papa" when he saw him in the casket and when he saw pictures of "papa." He got to ride on his saddle. I think he remembered visiting papa before.

Robbie discovered his shadow this month.

He loved going outside when the weather was nice, reading books, dancing, singing, and talking. We love our crazy and beautiful little boy!

A New Look

So, I FINALLY cut my hair! For those of you who don't know, about 8 months ago, I was diagnosed with a disease called Alopecia Areata. It is an auto-immune disease in which your body attacks hair follicles. Well, you may not see in these pictures, but I have several bald spots on my head. It is not a curable disease, but can be treated with steroid injections, which I have been receiving. I have had quite a bit of regrowth, but still lose hair. Well, I am going to try short hair for awhile-hopefully my hair will seem thicker and I can actually wear my hair down. Here are the results:

February 18, 2006 Our Wedding Day...

It's amazing how much can happen in four years! I was talking to Jason on our date last night about what happens in four years--high school, getting a bachelor's degree, etc. AND there is still so much more life to live!
I am thankful for the fun we've had! I love you, Jason!

For my 29th birthday, my mom drove the 3.5 hours to see me and took us out to dinner!What a great mom!

Jason hid my presents throughout the house, and I had to search. Great presents too! One of them was a gift certificate for a massage!:)

It's hard to believe that I am only a year away from 30, but life is good! Birthdays just aren't the same as you get older...

We spent time with family. All but one of my siblngs got together at my mom's house for Christmas. It was wonderful to see them all again!
Robbie had fun opening some presents and then playing. He walks, climbs, and explores all over the place! He likes to talk and tell you all about things (even thought you can't tell what he is saying).

Every day, Robbie is getting closer to his FIRST BIRTHDAY! He is starting to walk and continues to crawl with lightning speed. He loves climbing our stairs and eating anything Mom and Dad eat. He likes to babble and sing. His best word is probably Daddy.

Robbie's Month of May Report

Mommy went to SUU's college graduation to support our family. I hung out with Daddy at Grandpa's house.

Todd, Christie, and Lily and Koda too!

After graduation, we went to Grammie's house. I played with my cousin Lily.

My Auntie April came for graduation too:)!

Mommy took me to the state track meet. I played with some of my second cousins

I wore this hat for the first time at Cameron's baby blessing.

I told Mommy and my grandmas: HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY! I gave Mommy a card and some flowers. I also shared my slobber with her and gave her some hugs.

I went swimming in a real pool for the first time on Memorial Day. I think the water is fun! It is shiny and I love to SPLASH, SPLASH, SPLASH, kick, kick, kick, SPLASH, SPLASH, SPLASH!!!!!

Grandma Susan visited me. She is funny! We went to look at flowers together along with Mommy and Daddy.

I met my cousin Austin for the first time. I kept looking at him because he is so neat!

And, of course, I took some naps!

I also have been very busy scooting around the house. Things with strings are fun to pull. Everything tastes great if I put it in my mouth, especially paper. You should try tasting things too. I like going under and climbing over things. Daddy put up this wall and sometimes, I really don't like it. I also like pulling myself up onto my feet. I have bumped my head many times. I also have two more teeth (top two front teeth). That makes four.

Memorial Day weekend

Vietnam Memorial Wall

During Memorial Day weekend, we drove a couple of hours to see the traveling Vietnam Memorial. It was a powerful experience to realize just how many people died in the service of our country. It was especially touching to see the flowers and pictures people left by the names of people they knew. War affects a lot of people.

The Great Salt Lake (at Saltair)

We also went to the Great Salt Lake. The walk out to the water was smelly and there were dead birds all over the place. The sand became muddy and sticky as well. Robbie got to touch the water:)! He loves water!

We visited Saltair, what used to be a grand resort at the beginning of the 1900's. I always find it interesting to look at the old pictures and step into the past. Jason had never been, so it gave us even more reason to stop by.

It is amazing to think about the true meaning of Easter. The atonement and resurrection of Jesus Christ provide us with the greatest blessing we could ever hope for--that of living again with our Heavenly Father and our families throughout eternity. I am thankful for this knowledge and blessing and hope to live worthy to receive the many blessings our Father has for us. Just as a child is guided by his parents as he learns about the world, we too can be guided by our Heavenly Father.

We hope everyone has had a wonderful Easter!

July-Rachel went on a mission. Jason stayed behind and wrote to Rachel.

April-We got engaged! Then, Rachel waited for Jason to finish his "mission."

February-We were married!
2008
July-We bought our first house and moved to a bigger city (much bigger).

October-We welcomed little Robbie into this world.

Happy New Year to everyone! 2008 was quite a year! Basically, we moved, bought a house, and had a baby! Those were the biggest things to happen to us. Recently, we have been painting in our house and making plans for more improvements.

We love our little boy who is growing so fast and smiling and laughing and trying to talk and being so CUTE!! There are pictures to prove his cuteness.

New Arrival

Robbie was born October 8th at 7:43 p.m. weighing 8 pounds and measuring 20 inches. He had some trouble during labor and had to be quickly taken out of his mommy. Mommy and baby stayed in the hospital for a few days and are now doing very well. He is so cute! I hope you all agree! Here are a few pictures from his first days in this world.

We signed papers on our first home the end of June and moved in at the beginning of this month! It is a three-floor townhouse, and so far, we are really enjoying it! More space and more to decorate! We have been visiting family a lot lately so we still need to get to know our neighbors, but so far, those we have met are great. Thank you to all those who helped us move and all those that have visited us!

Our little boy is growing more and more each day, and so is his mother!

The ultrasound pics were taken in May and the picture of the pregnant lady was taken just the other day. Jason and I can't wait to hold our little one in our arms! We are already getting to know him a little from his movements. We are busy making plans and preparations. We just had a baby shower and were blessed with many great gifts. It made me realize how real this baby is and made me even more excited about his arrival! So far, he and his mother are healthy and strong. He is due to arrive October 9th.

Birthday

Well, I have been 27 years old now for almost two weeks. Sometimes it kind of hits me that I am getting so close to 30 and that some people around me that seem older than me, really aren't! My birthday was great! I have a wonderful husband who gave me some excellent and thoughtful gifts AND set up a surprise family party for me. I celebrated my b-day four times in a week. A couple of family get togethers, and then my real birthday. The kids at school made sure my birthday was announced on the loud speaker and sang "Happy Birthday" to me. I love those kids! Life is great!

Jason and I had fun dressing up, mostly for the kids at school. We were hoping to go to a couple party with friends, but it ended up not taking place. Those who saw us said they liked our costumes and that they were looking forward to seeing our costumes this year. Last year we were Fiona and Shrek and got a lot of compliments. We were also happy that we had about 30 trick-or-treaters come to our house instead of 3 like we had last year. Well, we hope you all had a Happy Halloween!!

Reflections on Funeral by Rachel

We drove to California this weekend for the funeral of a friend of my family. It is a long drive and it was hard to decide on going, but I'm glad we went. It was wonderful to see many people who have meant so much to me and my family for so many years. My hometown has changed a lot. It keeps growing.
The funeral was peaceful and made me reflect on a lot of things. It made me think about my dad's funeral, which I could not attend because I was out of the country. I often wish I had been there. Part of me though, is glad that I wasn't. The body of a loved one once dead is no longer the same. Yet, it gives some closure to the loved ones to see them that way and say their good-byes. It was also hard for me because we were back in the church where I grew up, the church that holds so many memories with my dad. We were even surrounded by people who knew him and loved him. Still, it was also somewhat joyful and made me feel at peace. I look forward to when I can be with him again.
I think it's important to stop once in a while and reflect on how we are living our lives. Are we showing love effectively to our loved ones? Are we doing our best? Are we reaching our goals? Are we where we want to or should be? Are we living in accordance with our beliefs? We have the opportunity every day to do better, to be better. I should do this more often.

Us in New York

This last summer, we took a trip to New York City to attend a friend's wedding and stayed to see some of the sites. This is us at the Statue of Liberty (just in case you couldn't tell). We also visited the Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center, the World Trade Center, Central Park, Ellis Island, The American Museum of Natural History, and saw The Lion King on Broadway. We really enjoyed riding the subways, trains and buses (it's really cheap and a good idea to see a lot of the city). The taxis were a little too expensive for us, especially when they got lost (that happened to us twice, both at very important times).

So, this summer we went to Phoenix, AZ. While we were there, we visited the Phoenix Art Museum. It was pretty cool. In this picture you see the first piece of art that we saw in the museum. We thought it was pretty colorful, however, we didn't realize why it was so colorful until we looked at it a little more closely. The whole thing is made with real butterfly wings! Crazy, huh? We thought it was very interesting and wanted to share it with all of you.
